HORSE RIDING IN GALLOWAY FOREST PARK

As will be seen from the accompanying map Galloway Forest Park is large, the biggest Forest park in Great Britain. Contained within its boundaries are some 400 miles of forest road.

In Galloway Forest Park there is open access for horse riders on all of the forest roads. It presents an ideal opportunity to get away from road traffic and enjoy our magnificent hill scenery. Remember though that it's a working forest and there may be timber operations taking place.

You are advised to contact the Recreation Forester at Newton Stewart, Tel. No. 01671 402420 to make sure that you can safely access the forest at the place(s) you plan.

Much of the diversity of Scotland is captured in Galloway; our mixture of heathery hills, mountain lochs and spectacular scenery. Seen from horseback you quickly feel at one with the ruggedness and apparent isolation of it all.

Visit too the Forestry Commission's website which has lots of information.
