KIRKCUDBRIGHT ARTISTS

Kie Stewart

Pink FuchsiasI was born in Kirkcowan (formerly in Wigtownshire). I studied art at the Douglas Ewart High School in Newton Stewart under the inspired tuition of the late Jack Maltman. After leaving school I moved to London to find work, like many of my contemporaries.

I enjoyed my time in London working in Personnel and Computing but early retirement beckoned and I moved to Kirkcudbright to find more time for painting. My work can be seen regularly at the Harbour Cottage Gallery as well as
occasional exhibitions around Kirkcudbright (including the Back Room Gallery). My first solo exhibition in 2004 was well received and I am looking forward to another solo exhibition and a joint exhibition with two friends this year (see below for details of both).

I also have a keen interest in craft and create a number of products utilising prints of my paintings. These feature local scenes of Galloway (including Kirkcudbright and Belted Galloways) and are reproduced on calendars, postcards, notecard packs, greetings cards, coasters and paperweights. My ‘Belted Galloway Collection’ has even been to the Royal Highland and Stewartry Shows. I am also the current Chairman of the Kirkcudbright Crafts Association which promotes local crafts people's work at regular exhibitions held at the Harbour Cottage Gallery each year.
