Mabie Farm Park
Mabie Farm Park is a Fun Day Out for all of the family, whatever the weather. The Farm Park, on the outskirts of Dumfries, nestles against Mabie Forest and covers an area of over forty acres. Among the many attractions at the Farm Park are a Dirt Buggy Track, a Grass Sledging Slope, Pedal Go Karts, a Boating Pond, lots of animals and a 5000 square foot Indoor Playbarn, these are only a few of our many attractions at the park. Picnic and barbeque areas are provided. There is also a tearoom and farm shop. The minimum time you can expect to spend on a visit to Mabie Farm Park is about 2 hours, but most spend the whole day.
Creetown Gemrock Museum
The Gem Rock is the leading independent museum of its kind in the UK and is renowned worldwide. Owned and run by the Stephenson family it is regarded as one of the finest private collections of gemstones, crystals, minerals, rocks and fossils in Great Britain. Crystals and minerals are some of natures most outstanding creations and the collection demonstrates this with many fine specimens of world class standard on display. Visit at the beginning of your holiday because, once purchased, your ticket is valid for two weeks. There is also a cafe and much more.
The CocoaBean Company
The CocoaBean Company is a small specialist chocolate factory based in Twynholm village a few miles from Kirkcudbright. Their chocolates are supplied to local business and to national retailers such as John Lewis, Waitrose and Harrods.
Although a factory, it is very much open to the public. There is a yummy cafe and shop, but the hightlight is the workshops for adults and children where great fun is had making chocolates and truffles.
They are open 7 days a week during school holidays and at weekends. Adult workshops can be arranged anytime by booking ahead.
Cream o' Galloway
Not just an ice cream parlour, tearoom and shop, but fabulous adventure playground including an indoor 'Smugglers' Warren' with its underground tunnels and climbing towers, an indoor Under 5s play area and an extensive outdoor play area including pedal karts, 3D maze and viewing tower.
If you're looking to do something more active, you can enjoy miles of nature trails with wildlife watching opportunities, take the dog for a walk or challenge yourself on family cycle tracks. Picnic tables are provided along the nature trails, by the car park and outside the front of the visitor centre. Everything for a fun family day out.
Kirkcudbright Swimming Pool
Our swimming pool is community owned and we are very proud of it. Opened in 1997 the pool measures 20m x 8.5m. The water depth is 0.9m, graduating to maximum depth of 1.5m in the deepest part of the pool. There is also a sauna and fitness suite.
They have designated parking for wheelchair users and ramps with handrails at the entrance. There are changing/shower facilities with access straight onto the poolside. These are equipped with an adjustable height shower bed and a ceiling track hoist. For people who have difficulty with steps, a hoist is available to safely lift swimmers in and out of the water.
