Dumfries & Galloway Family History Society assists family history researchers all over the world. With its own shopfront in Dumfries, it is one of the most active societies in the country.
The Scottish Genealogy Society is the national organisation for genealogical research.
Clan Maclellan used to own the Maclellan Castle in Kirkcudbright. Now they keep in touch through the Clan Maclellan website.

Stewartry Kirkyards Illustrated has details of an ongoing project to photograph the gravestones on the Stewartry. The Parishes of Buittle, Tongland and Twynholm (including The Stell) have so far been completed and are for sale on CD.  Also some parish history material.  
The Genuki Network is a volunteer effort to make genealogy information available to people everywhere. Every county in England and Scotland is covered; there are special pages for Kirkcudbright.
