THE SQUASH CLUB, which has two courts, was opened in 1981, after a massive fund raising effort by Kirkcudbright people for their own courts. Up until then local players were playing, by invitation, at the local M.O.D. military range. The Club is non-profit making and is financed solely by members and visitors, it receives no financial help.
Despite being in existence for over 20 years the location of the Clubhouse is still something of a “secret” to many people in the town.
The Clubhouse is situated next to Swimming Pool, behind the Kirkcudbright Academy, in the Castledykes area of the town. Visitors are welcome, and can come along as a guest of a member, or independently.
A key for the main door, together with the digital code for the internal door, can be obtained from the Swimming Pool for a
£10 returnable deposit. The Visitors Fee of £1.50 per player is put in the Visitors Box in the clubhouse. The lights for the two courts require £1 and/or 20 pence coins. Sessions are in for 45 minutes and cost
£3 per court.

The benefits of being a member is that members have their own key, can access the club at any time and do not pay the Visitors fee.
With a racquet costing as little as £10, trainers and long lasting squash balls at £1, court fees £1 per player, playing squash is not expensive; besides being an excellent means of staying in shape.
There are Gents and Ladies changing rooms, toilets and showers.
Application forms for membership can be obtained from Gifford, Gillespie and Brown, Solicitors (next to the Commercial Hotel).
Current membership rates per annum are: -
ADULTS £44
STUDENTS (over 18) £22
JUNIORS £6.
Half yearly memberships, at half rates, are available from the 1st. January.
Full MEMBERSHIPS taken out after 1st. MAY, will be valid until 30 JUNE the following year.
