Art & Artists
Although we have no large art gallery we are very fortunate to have an annual exhibition of national significance every summer. The town has always had a strong connection with the Glasgow School of Art and this year sees a celebration of this in the form of an exhibition of the works of the Glasgow Boys. On the bank holiday weekend at the beginning of August we hold our amazing 4 day Art & Craft Trail as part of our Summer Festivities. Local commercial galleries hold a wide variety of exhibitions across the year.
Music and Street Entertainment
Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities have been holding events here for nearly 40 years. Their presentations are slick and professional and range from a series of 7 Thursday night's of traditional Scottish entertainment in the town centre to countryside festivals, parades and vintage vehicle events, historical re-enactments and much much more. New this year is 'Kirkcudbright On Song a weekend-long celebration of singer-songwriters and the art of great song at the end of May. Every June we have a 4 day Jazz Festival attracting visitors from all over the world, and in July the Wickerman Music Festival is held in nearby Dundrennan.
